Amazon Drones Clash: Two Prime Air Units Collide in Arizona
Well, this is unexpected. I just heard that two Amazon Prime Air drones had a bit of a fender-bender in Tolleson, Arizona. Apparently, they collided with a crane this morning, not too far from one of Amazon's fulfillment centers.
Luckily, it seems like nobody got hurt, which is always the most important thing. The local police were called in, but it sounds like the FAA is going to take the lead on figuring out what happened. I imagine there'll be a pretty thorough investigation to see what went wrong.
An Amazon spokesperson said they're aware of the incident and are cooperating with the authorities. They launched the drone delivery option in the Phoenix area not too long ago, so I'm sure they want to get to the bottom of this quickly. I mean, you don't want your packages arriving in pieces, right?
These drones are supposed to only fly during the day and when the weather's good, so I'm curious to know what caused the collision. Hopefully, it's just a minor setback and they can get the drone delivery program back on track soon. It's a pretty cool concept, when it works, and let's be honest, who doesn't love getting stuff delivered right to their doorstep?
They even got approval from the FAA to ship more products via drone back in May. So, while this isn't ideal, it seems like drone delivery is still very much in Amazon's plans. I, for one, am interested to see how this plays out and what they learn from this incident. I just hope that, in the future, Amazon could make their drones more secure and safe for the population.
