Boox Unveils Go 7 E-Readers Enhanced with Handwriting Feature
Boox has expanded its lineup of E Ink devices with the introduction of the Go 7 and Go Color 7 (Gen II) e-readers. These new devices combine a design reminiscent of the Kindle Oasis with the versatility of Android 13. A notable addition to this series is the support for handwriting, enabled by an optional stylus.
Key Features and Specifications
The Boox Go Color 7 (Gen II) features E Ink Kaleido 3 technology, similar to what is found in other color e-readers like the Kobo Libra Colour. This technology allows for color content to be displayed at 150 ppi, while black and white content is rendered at 300 ppi. The Go 7, on the other hand, utilizes a monochrome Carta 1300 display, providing a crisp 300 ppi resolution for black and white text.
Both the Go 7 and Go Color 7 maintain an asymmetrical design, incorporating physical page turn buttons for easy one-handed operation. This design choice is inspired by the discontinued Kindle Oasis, and similar designs can be found in Kobo's Libra, Sage, and Elipsa lines.
A significant advantage of Boox's e-readers is their Android operating system, complete with the Google Play Store. This allows users to install a wide range of applications, including ebook storefronts, note-taking apps, browsers, and more. However, due to the limitations of E Ink technology, video playback is not expected to be a smooth experience.
Performance and Accessories
The Go 7 and Go Color 7 are equipped with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, along with microSD card support for expanded storage capacity. Both devices are lightweight, weighing in at 195g (6.9oz).
While both e-readers support pen input for tasks like note-taking and highlighting, the stylus is sold separately. The InkSense stylus, priced at $46, offers 4,096 pressure levels of sensitivity. It also features a multifunction button and is rechargeable via USB-C.
Availability and Pricing
The monochrome Go 7 is available for preorder on Boox's website for $250, with expected shipping around May 7. The Go Color 7, priced at $280, is listed as "coming soon."
