Cadillac Optiq-V: GM's First EV with Tesla Supercharger Support
Cadillac has unveiled the Optiq-V, a high-performance electric vehicle boasting impressive specifications. With 519 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, it achieves a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds in Velocity Max mode. While not as fast as the Lyriq-V, it rivals the performance of the iconic CT5-V Blackwing.
A Charging Revolution
The Optiq-V's significance extends beyond its performance. It's the first General Motors electric vehicle to feature a native, factory-installed NACS charging port, granting direct access to Tesla's extensive Supercharger network. This eliminates the need for adapters, addressing a significant challenge faced by other automakers.
Powered by an 85 kWh battery pack, the Optiq-V offers an estimated 275 miles of range. While specific charging speeds haven't been detailed, the native NACS port promises a smoother charging experience.
Design and Features
Aesthetically, the Optiq-V retains the familiar Optiq design, enhanced by an optional carbon fiber package that includes a front splitter, rear diffuser, and rear mid-spoiler. Other notable features include 21-inch alloy wheels, Brembo brake calipers, and a unique "sound experience" that simulates the growl of a combustion engine – adjustable or even silenced in "stealth mode".
The car includes a dedicated V-Mode button on the steering wheel, allowing drivers to save performance settings. However, unlike the Lyriq-V, it will not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
Pricing and Availability
The Cadillac Optiq-V will be available later this year, starting at $68,795 (excluding taxes and fees). Its launch market includes the US, Canada, Mexico, the Middle East, and Israel. This release marks another step towards the mainstreaming of performance EVs.
