Google on trial: Can we trust Google?

Technology

Hey everyone, so I was reading about the ongoing Justice Department's case against Google regarding ad tech, and something really struck me. The judge, Leonie Brinkema, kind of cut to the chase, focusing on trust as the core issue.

She asked a DOJ expert if strict orders modifying Google's behavior would actually fix things, assuming Google acted in "complete good faith." It’s a pretty loaded question, especially considering how the previous Google trial went. Apparently, the DOJ kept bringing up instances where Google employees supposedly used chat messages to dodge legal discoverability. I mean, if that's true, it doesn't exactly scream trustworthiness, does it?

The fact that the judge is even asking this question suggests that she's not entirely convinced Google will play fair. It makes you wonder, can a company that big, with that much power, really be trusted to regulate itself, even under court order?
