Microsoft Build 2025: AI and Copilot Enhancements

Software

Microsoft's annual Build developer conference, running from May 19th to 22nd, is expected to heavily feature artificial intelligence and its integration across various platforms. While Azure and other core technologies will undoubtedly be discussed, the focus will likely remain on advancements in AI, building upon previous years' introductions of AI features into consumer products.

Enhanced AI in Windows 11

A significant portion of the conference will likely be dedicated to showcasing improvements in Windows 11's AI capabilities. AI agents, capable of performing tasks on behalf of users, were a major talking point at Build 2024, and further developments are anticipated. An agent integrated into the Settings app, automating system adjustments, is expected to be detailed, along with potential new agents. The integration of third-party agents into applications is another likely topic. Further developments to File Explorer and the Start Menu, enabling streamlined file management and app discovery, may also be highlighted.

Copilot Vision and Researcher Enhancements

Copilot Vision, the AI assistant's ability to “see” and interpret on-screen content, is already available on mobile devices. An expanded desktop version, allowing Copilot access to the desktop or specific app windows (currently available to Windows Insiders), is expected to be officially launched or receive significant updates. Additionally, the Researcher tool, leveraging OpenAI's o3 reasoning model for research tasks within Microsoft 365, might see an expansion to free Copilot users.

Beyond the Spotlight: Azure, .NET, and GitHub

While AI dominates the anticipated announcements, Microsoft's broader ecosystem will not be ignored. Updates and news related to Azure, .NET, and GitHub are also anticipated, reflecting the company's continued investment in these foundational technologies.
