Midjourney has just dropped the alpha version of its V7 model, and it's a game-changer for AI image generation. One of the biggest hurdles for AI image generators has been accurately depicting human hands. But early adopters are already sharing impressive, photorealistic images of hands generated by V7, hinting at a major leap forward.
Introducing Draft Mode: Speed and Savings
But the improvements don't stop at image quality. V7 also introduces a fantastic feature called "Draft Mode." This mode renders images at half the usual speed and cost. While the results are rougher and less detailed, Draft Mode is perfect for brainstorming and iterating on ideas.
Imagine collaborating with a colleague, bouncing ideas back and forth. With Draft Mode, you can quickly generate visual representations of your concepts without breaking the bank. And because it works with voice input, you can even brainstorm verbally! If a Draft Mode image sparks your interest, simply click "enhance" or "vary" to re-render it at full quality.
At launch, V7 offers Turbo and Relax modes for standard rendering. Turbo mode delivers faster results but comes at twice the cost of a normal speed job on the V6 model. Midjourney is still optimizing its standard speed mode for V7, which will be available in the future.
Some capabilities like upscaling, editing, and retexturing are initially handled by the V6 model. Midjourney plans to release updates for V7 every week or two over the next couple of months, so expect a steady stream of improvements.
Personalization: Tailoring AI to Your Taste
To access the V7 alpha, you'll need to unlock your personalization profile. This "style assistant" learns your visual preferences by having you rank pairs of images. After ranking at least 200 pairs, you'll create a V7 Global Personalization Profile and unlock the model. Personalization is on by default but can be disabled if desired.
