Roblox Revamps Creator Rewards to Boost Player Engagement
So, Roblox is shaking things up for its creators! I think it's great that they're focusing on rewarding developers who bring players back to the platform regularly. It makes perfect sense, right? After all, a thriving community is what keeps these virtual worlds alive.
Daily Engagement Reward
Starting July 24th, Roblox will roll out a new program called Creator Rewards. This includes the Daily Engagement Reward, which gives creators 5 Robux when an "active spender" hangs out in their experience for at least 10 minutes. Now, 5 Robux might not sound like much, but it can add up if you're attracting a huge crowd every single day. It will be interesting to see how this plays out!
To be eligible, your experience needs to be one of the first three that an active spender (someone who has spent at least $9.99 in the last 60 days) checks out each day. Apparently, the first three experiences of the day are key for getting users into the platform, which makes sense, I guess. People that plays after that are probably looking for new experiences.
According to Roblox CPO Manuel Bronstein, creators shouldn't feel pressured to optimize their games just for that 10-minute mark. His advice is simple: "Continue to build a great product... and you will benefit from this reward." Solid advice, if you ask me. After all, quality content is what keeps players engaged in the long run.
It's worth noting that this new system will replace the current engagement-based payouts program that was based on playtime from Roblox Premium subscribers. I think it's a good move because the old system wasn't as transparent or effective in rewarding user acquisition and reactivation. It wasn't very clear before, so this seems like a welcomed change.
Audience Expansion Reward
There's also the Audience Expansion Reward, which gives creators a revenue share of purchases from players who join or return to Roblox because of them. If someone joins through your link or searches for your experience by name and plays for at least 10 minutes, you get a cut. A fair deal, wouldn't you say?
This reward system will eventually replace the current Creator Affiliate program and offer creators a 35 percent revenue share on the first $100 those new or returning users spend in their first two months on Roblox. This is a pretty significant incentive to bring in new players. I think it's a really good idea.
Roblox is projecting to pay out a staggering $1 billion to creators this year. To give you some context, last year, they paid out over $922 million, which is way more than what Epic Games paid to Fortnite creators ($352 million). It shows that they are really serious about this. Impressive, right?
