Washington Post Content Now Available on ChatGPT via OpenAI Partnership
The Washington Post has officially partnered with OpenAI to integrate its news content into ChatGPT. This collaboration allows ChatGPT users to access summaries, quotes, and links to Washington Post articles when prompted for web searches. The financial details of this agreement remain undisclosed.
Peter Elkins-Williams, head of global partnerships at The Post, emphasized the importance of meeting audiences where they are, highlighting that this integration ensures ChatGPT users can readily access the newspaper's impactful reporting.
This move aligns with The Washington Post's prior adoption of generative AI. Back in November, they introduced AI-driven article summaries. Furthermore, ChatGPT Search became universally accessible in early February, eliminating the need for accounts or sign-ins.
Interestingly, around the same time, Jeff Bezos, owner of The Washington Post, unveiled a strategic shift toward publishing daily opinion pieces advocating for personal liberties and free markets. Considering both this focus and Amazon's AI investments, the partnership between The Washington Post and OpenAI appears to be a logical step.
The Washington Post is now among a growing list of news publishers collaborating with OpenAI, marking a significant shift from initial resistance seen from certain media outlets, such as The New York Times. OpenAI reports having established similar agreements with over 20 news publishers worldwide.
