WhatsApp reportedly bringing calls to browsers
WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform owned by Meta, is reportedly developing a feature that will enable voice and video calls directly within web browsers. This enhancement would extend the calling capabilities currently available on the platform's Mac and Windows applications, providing users with a more accessible and convenient way to connect.
The move comes as Skype, an early pioneer in online communication, faces closure by Microsoft, potentially shifting users towards alternative platforms like Zoom, Teams, and Google Meet, in addition to WhatsApp.
Currently, users can make voice and video calls through the dedicated WhatsApp applications for Mac and Windows. The anticipated browser-based functionality would eliminate the need to download a separate application, offering a streamlined experience, particularly beneficial for users who may not want to install WhatsApp on shared or work computers.
Enhanced Calling Features
WABetaInfo has provided a preview of the feature currently under development.
WhatsApp has been actively working on improving its calling features. Recently, the platform introduced a call menu feature for both individual and group chats. This allows users to quickly initiate calls or share call links directly from within the chat interface, simplifying the process of connecting with others.
