Windows 11 Has Officially Overtaken Windows 10 as Most Used Desktop OS
Well, it's official! After a bit of a slow climb, Windows 11 has finally surpassed Windows 10 as the most popular desktop operating system. I have been following this trend for a while, and it was just a matter of time!
For those of us who keep an eye on these things, StatCounter's latest data shows Windows 11 holding a comfortable lead with 52% of the market share, leaving Windows 10 behind at 44.59%. It's a pretty big deal, especially considering Windows 10's end-of-life date is creeping closer.
I remember when Windows 11 first launched; there was a lot of buzz, but adoption was slower than expected. This was partly because of the stricter hardware requirements. Microsoft offered a free upgrade, but many older machines simply couldn't make the jump. It's like trying to fit a modern engine into a classic car – sometimes, it just doesn't work.
Microsoft has been actively encouraging users to upgrade. However, for those sticking with Windows 10, there's a catch. After October 14th, you'll need to either enable Windows Backup and sync your Documents to OneDrive for a free year of security updates, pay $30, or redeem 1,000 Microsoft Reward points. It seems like Microsoft really wants people to move on!
In my opinion, while the hardware requirements were initially a hurdle, Windows 11 offers a more modern and streamlined experience. It's great to see it finally gaining the traction it deserves. I think it's a good move for most users, but I understand why some are hesitant to upgrade, especially if it means investing in new hardware.
