Apple Shifts Focus: Smart Glasses Get Priority, Lighter Vision Pro Delayed

Technology

So, I've been following Apple's moves in the wearable tech space, and it seems they're making some interesting shifts. The buzz is that they're really ramping up their efforts on smart glasses, potentially putting a lighter version of the Vision Pro on the back burner. Seems like they're aiming to compete with Meta and others in the smart glasses arena.

From what I understand, Apple is exploring two different smart glasses approaches. One is a non-display version, maybe hitting the market around 2027. The other one is the glasses with display that they are trying to push forward. It's interesting to see them jumping into this area, which Meta already dominates. Will they offer something truly different?

Apparently, these glasses will pack cameras, speakers, and come in different designs, just like Meta's Ray-Ban glasses. The interaction will be largely based on voice commands and AI, which is interesting, and I'm excited to see what Apple's approach will be. I think the success of these devices will come down to how well the AI is implemented.

Apple is also developing a custom chip for these smart glasses. I think this is a smart move, as it will allow them to optimize performance and battery life. However, the display version is expected to “challenge” Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses, which has a display in the right lens. This shows that Apple is aiming high, which, honestly, is not surprising.

Now, about that lighter Vision Pro... it was rumored to launch in 2027, but it seems like Apple is reallocating resources to the smart glasses project. Also, it seems like a new version of the original Vision Pro, is in the works, maybe launching later this year. It's exciting to see how Apple continues to innovate in the AR/VR space, even if it means changing course along the way.
