Max AI Previews

Max to Show Autoplaying Video Previews Selected by AI

Streaming

Get ready for a more dynamic browsing experience on Max! Soon, when you hover over titles, you'll see automatically playing video previews. This feature, already rolling out in the US, aims to give you a quick and engaging glimpse of what a show or movie has to offer. Think of it as a supercharged trailer reel right at your fingertips.

However, there's more than meets the eye, because Max is also working on an "AI-assisted" tool to curate these previews. In the coming weeks, this technology will identify "standout" scenes, helping Max's team select the most compelling clips. As Avi Saxena, Warner Bros. Discovery’s chief technology officer, noted, this AI-driven approach will drastically cut down on the manual effort required to create these previews.

Imagine sifting through hours of footage to find the perfect snippets. The AI will act like a seasoned editor, pinpointing the moments that pack the most punch. In fact, it is designed to identify Drop-in Moments for the vast catalog of content on Max, making the whole process far more efficient.

Worried about unwanted noise? No need to fear. Max will also let you mute the audio or disable the autoplaying video entirely, a feature similar to Netflix. This puts you in control of your browsing experience. Speaking of interface tweaks, Max recently updated its layout, moving options from the top menu bar to the left. It's interesting to see how different streaming platforms are experimenting with navigation to improve user experience.

One final note: this summer, Max will officially revert back to its old name, HBO Max. So prepare for that change coming soon!
