Netflix Tests AI Search to Recommend Movies and TV Shows
Netflix is experimenting with a new search functionality, leveraging the power of OpenAI to help users discover movies and shows. According to reports, this feature is currently being tested with a limited group of users in Australia and New Zealand.
This new tool goes beyond the typical search parameters like title, actor, or genre. It aims to allow users to search for content using more nuanced and specific terms, potentially even based on their mood. Imagine searching "something funny" and getting a curated list of comedies.
The potential is huge. With generative AI at its core, users should be able to use natural language when searching. This means you could type in something like "a feel-good movie about friendship" and receive relevant recommendations.
Netflix already uses AI to personalize recommendations based on viewing history. This new search feature would take that personalization a step further, offering a more intuitive and user-friendly way to find something to watch.
While the initial tests are limited to Australia and New Zealand and only on iOS devices, Netflix plans to expand the testing to other markets, including the United States.
